Pamela Kogen is an east coast girl who spent her childhood in Levittown Pa., the suburbs of New Jersey and the waters of Martha’s Vineyard. She moved to the East Village in the early 1980’s and received her BFA degree in painting from Parsons School of Design. The iconic subject of clothing, which has been a recurrent theme in her artwork, has led her to pursue careers in the fashion industry as a wardrobe and prop stylist, and as an editorial and fashion illustrator for magazines (Mademoiselle, Vogue) newspapers (New York Times, Village Voice) corporations (Liz Claiborne, Estee Lauder) museums (MOMA) and many of New York City’s top department stores (HenriBendel, Barneys NY).
Pamela’s palette is rich in color and vibrancy. The imagery is playful, belying her underlying motivation to explore themes of identity, desire, belief and human interaction. Graphic and deeply humanistic, her work is influenced by her passion for travel, the continuous study of art history and tuning into the news.
